Gawthwaite Lane

Managing drainage and renewing the surface.

Storm water is the most significant cause of damage to green roads. Regular maintenance of culverts and drainage channels keeps the way open and safe for all users. Cumbria TRF worked with Cumbria Highways, a paid contractor and the local farmers to get this road re-surfaced. There were significant challenges to these works including poor weather, hold ups at the material supply point, funds availability to name a few. However, the most significant damage was repaired and the road became usable for the majority of users again. A lot of volunteer hours went into this project and many thanks needs to go to both the contractors on site and the Cumbria Highways team.
