Gatescarth Pass

Gatescarth Pass is the road that links Longsleddale valley with the Mardale valley and Haweswater, and is made up of 2 BOATs and an UCR. The route has a permanent TRO on it with a permit system set up by Lake District National Park, which allows 18 motorcycles to travel over the pass in either direction once a month.

The route is 5.5km of rocky, steep and twisty track which should not be attempted by novices.

Gatescarth is a wonderful Lakeland pass, a challenging but rewarding ride. Access to the pass is limited and is controlled by The Lake District National Park Authority. Cumbria TRF act as Marshals for these access days on behalf of LDNPA and provide feedback on conditions. Members from the Green Lane Association, (GLASS), also act as Marshals for the 4×4 permit holders.

In addition, CTRF undertake regular maintenance and repair work on the pass to the benefit of all users.
